Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how NearWhen collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use our website, mobile web app, and authentication features (including Google sign-in).

The data controller for NearWhen is Lars Kluge.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, account credentials, trip details, and communications with support.

We also collect technical data needed to run the service, such as device/browser details, IP address, log data, and security events.

If you sign in with Google, we receive basic account identity data from that provider (for example: provider user ID, name, email, and profile image if shared).

2. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • create and secure your account;
  • provide core features (trips, friends, overlaps, invites);
  • send transactional emails (confirmation and password reset);
  • prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access;
  • improve reliability, performance, and product quality.

3. Google OAuth Data Use

OAuth data from Google is used only for authentication, account linking, and account security.

We do not sell OAuth-provided personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

NearWhen only requests the minimum scopes needed for sign-in. If NearWhen ever accesses Google user data through Google APIs, use of that data will comply with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. Sharing of Information

We share data only with service providers required to operate the service, such as hosting, authentication/database, and email delivery providers.

We may also share information when required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and trip data while your account is active and as needed for security, legal, and operational obligations.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Contact below).

6. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we continuously work to improve safeguards.

7. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • access and update your profile information in-app;
  • request account deletion;
  • revoke Google access from your provider settings.

8. Children

NearWhen is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
